Matinee description:
Debut album from this French quartet includes 13 accomplished songs (ten in English, three in French) combining multiple guitars with prominent keyboards and strings, excellent female harmonies, percussion and other superb instrumentation. Nearly a year in the making, the songs shine with smooth arrangements and lush orchestration similar to House of Love, the Church, or Tindersticks. Includes a new version of "What Am I Supposed To Do" from the band's 1998 debut 7" on Matinée, which acclaimed French magazine Les Inrockuptibles lauded for its "unreserved enthusiasm." The album has enjoyed numerous favorable reviews in French magazines including Magic, Les Inrockuptibles, and Midi Libre, and is available in deluxe digipack with extensive linernotes.

Track listing:

1. "Oriane"
2. "What Am I Supposed To Do?"

Twee Kitten review of La Main Devant La Bouche
by Keith Mclachlan

When I walk alone and at the same time carry this record I suppose I feel like I should be wearing a tee-shirt with "I'm With Stupid" emblazened across the front, or maybe more forthrightly a tattoo that screams "I am Stupid" across the forehead. This is definitely a candidate for worst thing ever. Yes, ever! I was once told by a popstar rather secretively that Ego are the silliest personification of Pop Stars ever, having everything cliche, all the way to the smallest details. Apparently this entails things like sickening arrogance, bohemian wardrobes and chain smoking stench, oh but they seem to have forgotten the tunes. The single that came out a few years ago was lovely, really lovely actually. But I suppose the signs should have been clear when they demolished a Blueboy song on that Sarah compilation double seven inch thing, I mean come on Blueboy is gorgeousness on parade and somehow with nearly no effort at all Ego trashed them and everything they stand for. It was a bit like that Double Agent seven inch that came out a long time ago with those amazing songs from My Favorite, Dustin and Rose, Papas Fritas and...oh wait Zaius was an embarassment. This album is an entire collection of those moments then, how handy.
