Jabalina description:
Its title may suggest the contrary, yet this is not Souvenir's first attempt ('Premier essai') in establishing themselves in the most interesting of pop domains. They succesfully did so some months ago, thanks to their first full-length CD, 'Points de Suspension', and intend to do the same with this CD EP that contains one song taken from that record plus some great bonus tracks that make it a really special offering for fans and newcomers alike. This EP follows the path that 'Points...' started, both musically and aesthetically, for it's Javier Aramburu again the hand in charge of artwork. The songs, apart from 'Premier essai' - one of the best tracks from that CD and maybe the most stylistically and technologically developed of all their songs - succeed once again in using French as the language for the most diverse of stylistic offerings. The three unreleased tracks we're talking about here evoke dreamy pop musings (the fantastic, infectious 'Rues arriere'), 60's soundtrack echoes ('Une heure du matin', an instrumental kind of track reminiscent of Cote D'Azur, Capri or St. Sebastian landscapes) and a tribute to a genius (Serge Gainsbourg's 'Harley Davidson' is covered here in fierce breakbeat mood - this song is featured also in the Japanese and American editions of 'Points de Suspension')... to sum up, a really tempting epilogue for those to whom 'Points de Suspension's' 11 tracks were not enough to satisfy their appetite. To them, therefore, Bon appétit!
