Twee Kitten review of Somniloquy
by Keith Mclachlan

Pram have released three records in the past three years, two of them are collections that sound sorta shaky in theory. One so much so that I still haven't picked up 'Telemetric Melodies', look I already have all of the songs there or all but one stinking remix of Cinnabar. But I've already got two mixes of Cinnabar so my pity needs no refreshment. Knowing of Pram songs that exist outside of my sphere of influence is a tough thing to handle or not handle if you will. They, Pram, are my automatic answer when anyone asks me who my favourite band is. Strange thing is I only listen to their records every other week or so. It is music that envelops, it is music that demands attention and lastly it is creepy. Pram are special. I'd like to think people who listen to them are special too. God don't make no junk is what it used to say over the toilet of my formative years. So on this record we get a magnificent song called 'Clock Without Hands' that might one day join 'Chrysalis' in the top 10 of all time greatest songs ever and it doesn't even have a theremin. We also get a fantastic non-Tortoise sounding jazzy instrumental and one that sounds like it was a remnant from the last album. Top stuff all of it. Then comes the remixes, five of them, and by the end I'm thinking Pram should only release remix albums because each effort is spectacular. 'Bewitched' is turned into the most beguiling of pop songs, 'A Million Bubbles...' is given the epic deep sea fishing treatment and the others are made even icier than the glacial originals, ghost portraits of the songs reflections. Pram--the reason music was invented.
