Twee Kitten review of "California Dreams"
by Keith Mclachlan

Honeyrider are the sound of sunshine. Ack! Cliche cliche, but he does seem to sing a lot about the beach and chicks and songs on the radio and heatwaves and the like. How else am i to describe him then? Lyrically he is Mike Love (pre-Anti-Christ phase) and musically he is Wiliam Reid. The a-side is one of the best songs from the absolutely fantastic Honeyrider record 'Splashdown' a buzzsaw pop classic but more sophisticated. He is more of a tunesmith than other proponents of Stihl-influenced music. The first b-side is a bit Teen Anthems, a looped keyboard riff and surprise, surprise lyrics concerning the beach, heatwaves, chicks and the radio. The last song is something like an out-take from the Jesus and Mary Chain circa-Barbed Wire Kisses, fuzzed out pop goodness to pound Puxotawney Phil over the head with.
